1: The Challenge
The “Magic” Expectation
Most users perceive WiFi as a utility that just works. When buffering occurs, the reaction is to blame the ISP users remain unaware that their home environment is a chaotic, invisible radio-frequency traffic jam. The challenge was to bridge the gap between this “magic” expectation and the mechanical reality of network congestion.
2: The Solution
Making the Invisible, Visible
We developed a diagnostic-first application that moves the user from a passive victim to an active network manager.
Neighborhood traffic visualization by visualizing non-overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11) via a bar chart, we turn abstract data into an intuitive traffic jam the user can choose to leave.
Environmental auditing we demystified interference using source cards, labeling common household culprits like microwaves and baby monitors, to help users perform their own physical site audit.
3: UX Strategy
Brand-Specific Guided Flows
A major friction point in network management is the diversity of black-box router interfaces. To solve this, we implemented router-specific brand guides.
Contextual assistance instead of a generic tutorial, we built a dictionary of the eleven most common router manufacturers.
Visual hand-holding browser previews show the exact UI of the user's specific router, with custom mockups of login pages and settings menus that strip away the intimidation factor. The user follows a visual map that matches the hardware in their hand, instead of guessing.
Standardized workflow unique and often obscure manufacturer navigation paths were translated into a standardized four-step process, so any user reaches the channel-change setting regardless of technical proficiency.
4: Impact
Technical & User Impact
Performance — built as a lightweight, zero-dependency single-page app and hosted on Vercel, so it stays responsive even for users currently suffering from degraded network speeds.
User empowerment the app shifts the user's mental model. They no longer see “slow internet” they see a congested channel they have the agency to clear.
